Frequently Asked Questions

Who made this?
The staff at New Media Campaigns created this site as a part time project for fun. New Media Campaigns is a web design and development firm that often works on political campaigns. To learn more about NMC and the work it does, check out its website or its blog.
Why did you make it?
First, the idea seemed like a lot of fun. More generally, however, we believe that the internet is playing a vital role in America's political process. Since the advent of radio and television, elections have increasingly become a competition based on sound bites and trivia. The internet offers an escape from this. Through a website, a candidate can explicitly lay out his goals and positions unconstrained by a 30 or 60 second time limit and unfiltered by the media. More importantly, the internet offers the opportunity for true communication to occur between candidates and voters. We're certainly not there yet. We hope this website is a fun excuse to visit candidates websites and become more engaged and informed. We also hope that it is a gentle reminder to campaigns that a good website is a requirement for building a successful campaign.
Why is the screenshot for candidate X missing or incorrect?
We're sorry. There were so many race and websites we needed data for that we probably messed up in a number of places. Let us know about the problem and we will do our best to fix it. If you want to submit a better screenshot, send it as an attachment along with a link to the race to our email address: info@votethesite.com.
Are you affiliated with a party or candidate?
New Media Campaigns is a non-partisan company, but we do have several political clients whose sites appear on VoteTheSite.com. To keep the results as honest as possible, we did nothing to delineate or call attention to our clients' sites. We launched VoteTheSite.com an independent study of online campaigns, not as a way to make our egos feel better about our work.
What happens with my votes?
For specific information read the privacy policy. Generally though, all votes are anonymously recorded. This is how we are able to show current results. In the future we might look at aggregate data to learn more about what kinds of campaign websites voters like best.
What are you doing with the results?
We are planning on analyzing them and compiling a report. If you would like to receive this report when we are complete, sign up for our newsletter here.

The Results Are In!

Thanks to everyone for participating. The votes have been tallied and the results determined. We've compiled a full analysis of the votes and compiled them into a report on political websites. Head over to check it out.
